about

Welcome to episode six of DERIVE Soundscapes Radio. In this episode I drew heavy inspiration from a trip I took to Kyoto in early August. During my time there I visited the home of late artist Kurosaki Akira in Keihoku, in the mountains north of Kyoto and was deeply moved by seeing his studio; untouched since his death. I was feeling a little burnt out from the pace of Tokyo life and an escape into nature is just what I needed. The second movement, Shinrin Yoku (森林浴), is a Japanese phrase that roughly translates to 'forest bathing' in English. It's no secret that the antidote to city life is getting out into nature often and so I ran with this idea for episode six.
